I had the pleasure of interviewing Claudia the founder of 'Media Luna' a Latina owned, Chicago based, event coordinating company. What actually began as a clothing boutique then transformed into a luxury picnic business and has now evolved to a business that uplifts its community and brings people together through their events. I asked Claudia "why did you start Media Luna?" She said "Media Luna was started because when I moved to Chicago it was difficult to make new friends and meet new girlies. So I thought why not curate spaces that encourage people to be brought together." After getting the opportunity to go to one of her events I have to say I was extremely impressed! Not just because she delivered on her promise of creating a comfortable environment for you to make new friends, meet new people, and network but also because I noticed they were having a clothing drive for the woman's shelter and for the migrant shelter. During our interview I asked about why she felt the need to incorporate this into her business. Her response was "We want to be able to use our platform (as in the events we host) to give back to the same community it serves." Talking with Claudia it seems as though this decision to serve her community and give back is very personal one because she is a D.A.C.A recipient who's legal status has challenged her every step of the way.
For those curious about what the future for Media Luna looks like Claudia said "We now know who our audience is, and the visions we are trying to create. For example I want to be there more for the community and for the people/ brands I want to represent which is latino based and continue to have events for latinos." Delivering on her promise Media Luna is collaborating with us at Mercado Goods to host our second ever showcase. Where we will be showcasing art, photography, paintings, and more. Working alongside Claudia I've gotten to see her incredible work ethic up close and she is a big part of this event. I love everything her business stands for and I can't wait to see what else is in store for Media Luna.
