When you think of the number 13 typically you'd associate it with something negative. Like Friday the 13th. To many, it's a superstition that this day brings bad luck. Some people might even go as far as staying home because they're afraid something bad might happen. Superstition is a very interesting thing because of the different lengths we're all willing to go. Like how it's widely believed that the legendary curse of the billy goat is what lead to the Chicago Cubs not winning a World Series in over 100 years (This even I believe to be true) or how Michael Jordan wore his North Carolina shorts under his Chicago Bulls uniform for every game in his NBA career believing that's what made him played so good. I'm just as superstitious as the next person but we gotta admit some of these beliefs are a little wacky.
For me one of the superstitions that has always been a little wacky is the belief that the number 13 is a symbol for bad luck. I would take it personally that people believed this because I was born on the 13th. So it was like "dayum what y'all tryna say about me." Nonetheless Its been something that since I was a young kid I remember loving the idea of flipping the script. Turning this number that people commonly view in a negative light and turning it into a positive.
It's not just about the number but also a mantra that can be lived by. We've all had that feeling like we're down on your luck. Like we can't catch a break. Like mars is in microwave. Like you're in a slump. or whatever the fuck it is. '13' is a reminder that no matter what you think or how you feel you're situation is going, you can get out of this. Flip the script. Turn your luck around. and give yourself permission to turn a negative situation into a positive.
